Domestic Animals Names List in English

The ‘Domestic Animals’ means the animals that have been tamed and kept by humans for work, for food source or as a pet. There are numerous kinds of animals that can be kept domestically. 

Examples of Domestic Animals:

Usage of Domestic Animals:

1. Bullocks

Bullocks help farmers in farming for crop cultivation. 

2. Dogs

Dogs are kept as guards. Dogs are very loyal and faithful and can be trained to assist the blind people and are known as guide dogs. They are also used in crime scenes as they have sharp vision and sense of smell. Dogs have a range of breeds including; German shepherd, bulldog, husky, poodle, golden retriever, Rottweiler Chow chow, Bull terrier etc. 

3. Horses and donkeys

Horses and donkeys are used for travelling, and for transporting things. They are a source of income for the labor class people. They are sometimes overloaded with work which is really heart breaking to see. These animals work for us so they must be treated with love and care. 

4. Cows

Cows provide us with milk. People who have kept cows as domestic animals, sell milk and earn money. This is known as dairy farming. From milk a lot of amazing things are made for example: cheese, butter, yoghurt and ice-cream that is the favorite junk food of all the children. 

Domestic Animals as Pets

Many people keep domestic animals as pets. Some of the most famous pets include:

  • Cats
  • Dogs
  • Parrots and
  • Rabbits. 

1. Cats

Cats are of different types and breeds. Persian cats are mostly kept. Other types include; Siamese, Bengal cat, Sphynx, Ragdoll, British short hair, Munchkin, Himalayan etc. 

2. Parrots

Parrots are beautiful as well as intelligent birds. Most of the breeds of parrots are talking parrots, they can imitate human voice. But some people keep birds in small cages which is not good. Birds require a lot of space to spread their feathers, to fly and play. They are made to fly and should not be caged. Pets are very good friends of humans. They amuse us , entertain us and protect us as well. They are faithful, constant and true to humans. So we should return love with love and be kind to them. 

3. Camels

Camels are popularly known as the “Ship of the Desert”. They are mainly found in the desert areas of Africa, Middle East Asia etc. Camel has a special body characteristic that is a high hump on its back where it stores water and food. 

4. Sheep

The sheep are very useful animal. The furs of sheep are very soft and long. These furs are sheared and made into wool. Sheep’s also provide us with milk. 

In villages, the cow dung is used as fuel, rich fertilizer and a biogas producer. New trend is rising to keep wild animals such as lion, tigers and snakes as domestic animals as a status symbol. Although this is not allowed and a license has to be issued by the government by paying a hansom amount. Keeping these animals as domestic animals can be dangerous, they are powerful animals and can attack us anytime. All animals should be treated with care and love and should be properly fed and hydrated before making them work.

Domestic Animals for Food

The domestic animals that are used for food include chicken, sheep, goat, camel, turkey, pigs and cow. We get meat from them and amazing recipes are made from their meat. The meat is rich in minerals, proteins and vitamins. Chicken provides us with eggs. A male chicken is called a rooster or a cockerel. A female chicken is called a hen. A young chicken is called a chick. Eggs are also a source of protein and dishes including scrambled eggs, omelet and cakes are made from eggs.
