The ee phonic words have one long sound. A single ‘e’ adds a short sound to the word, whereas two back to back e’s add a long sound to the word. Words like need, greed, deed, seed, etc. are all examples of the long ee sound. They should not be confused with words that have a short sound. Words like bed, red, ted, etc.
It might sound difficult to learn for kids but it really is not. It is quite easy. A table with words and sentences as examples will help the kids to learn. So, here are some examples of the ee phonic words:

Reed’s Beets
Reed had a big field. He planted a few beans and lots of beets. Then his beets began as seeds. He had to shield his beets from geese that tried to eat them. Every single beet was red and very special. Then one day, a thief tried to steal Reed’s beets. Reed ran with his feet to catch the bad thief. The bad thief ran all the way to the beach. He thought nobody saw him but Reed did. Reed caught the thief and took back his beets. Happy ending!
