As we all know that Car is the mostly commonly used form of Land Transport. Every car lover should know the main parts in the car, which remains same for all and only the critical parts or components are different as per make and model of the car.
We will illustrate and define the main parts with a brief description about the function of that particular part in a car.
Car Parts with brief descriptions:
- Gear lever: Used to change gears in a car.
- Seat belt: A car has seat belts in the front and back. You use the verb fasten, when you put your seat belt. John fastened is seat belt before driving off.
- Steering wheel: You use the steering wheel to control the direction of the car (steer the car).
- Windscreen: The windscreen is the big window at the front of the car.
- Windscreen wipers: Are the things used when it is raining, snowing or clean dirt of the windscreen.
- Head lights: They are used when driving at night and when it is raining, snow or fog.
- Tail lights: The lights that are at the back of the car are call lights. The orange light are called indicators and are used when the car is turning left or right. The white part is called the reverse light and lights up when the car is reversing backwards. The red part is used when the head lights are being used so other drivers can see the car in front of them at night time or poor driving conditions. It is also called a brake light and is used when the car is using the brake pedal.
- Speedometer: The speedometer shows how fast the person driving the car is driving.
- Fuel gauge: Used to show how much petrol or diesel the car has left
- Temperature gauge: Shows how hot the cars engine is.
- Car trip meter: This shows the driver how many miles the journey has took.
- Rev counter: The rev counter is used to help you change gear and can be used for better fuel economy.

- Oil Filter: A filter for removing impurities from engine oil.
- Spark Plugs: A small piece of equipment in an engine that produces a bright flash of electricity (a spark) to make the fuel burn and start the engine
- Fan Belt: A belt that transmits motion from the driveshaft to the radiator fan and the dynamo or alternator.
- Gear Box: A set of gears with its casing, especially in a motor vehicle; the transmission.
- Petrol Tank: A container holding the fuel supply in a motor vehicle
- Brake Pads: A thin block, typically one of a pair, which presses on to the disc in a disc brake.
- Radiator: An engine-cooling device in a motor vehicle or aircraft consisting of a bank of thin tubes in which circulating water is cooled by the surrounding air.
- Power Steering: Power-assisted steering on a motor vehicle
- Distribution Coil: An enclosed rotating shaft used in spark-ignition internal combustion engines that have mechanically timed ignition.
- Bumpers: A horizontal bar fixed across the front or back of a motor vehicle to reduce damage in a collision.
- Front Grill: An ornamental one at the front end of an automobile
- Ignition: A device that is used to start a motor vehicle
