Fishing, also known as angling. It is usually a sport of catching fish in fresh or salt water using long rods, wires and hooks. Like hunting, fishing is a way of providing food for survival. But fishing as a sport is very old.

across the board Bet on one horse to win, place, and show.
allowance or allowance race A non-application event where the race secretary places weight allowances based on previous fund benefits and / or types of wins.
breeze The term most commonly used to describe running is when a horse can easily run under a cage without being encouraged by the rider.

eased A horse is pulled or stopped before the race ends
exacta Betting where the player tries to choose the first and 2nd place horse in one ticket.
fast track Rate of dry and solid dirt track.
fire sale Significant reduction in the price of the desired horse.
form The current state of the horse
graded race The stakes race awarded a grade (I, II, or III) by the American Statistics Committee based on the limited strength of the race compared to all other races. This is the highest form of racing.
handicap A race in which the race secretary assigns weights designed to equalize the chances of winning entrants; or reading horse records to determine the chances of each winning a race.
handily Exercising strain when the jockey encourages the horse but does not use a whip.
handle The total amount of betting on a race or during the whole day.
hand ride A jockey riding a horse by “rubbing” his hand up and down his neck. The horse that rode only by hand was not yoked.
horse Legally, a male horse five years or older is a “horse”.
in hand A horse running under a ban.

 

inquiry A formal investigation by race management officials to determine if the mistake was made by a horse or a jockey.
in the money Finishing of the top four; this usually gives the owner a share of the fund.

juvenile A two-year-old horse.
look of eagles A horse with a confident appearance.
lug in A loaded horse (swept along the tracks) during a run; usually a sign of a tired horse.
miler A horse that prefers to run a distance or near miles.

optional claimer A race where horses on the field can be entered or entered at the required price.
