Very Much vs Too Much with Sentence Examples

Here we’ll have a look at the differences and examples of very much vs too much and build our concept by using each of them in sentences.

English is the language which is neither easy nor tough. It has it’s own variety of methodologies for writing and speaking. A small comma makes a great deal in an English sentence. Consider, these two sentences –

  1. Let’s eat Mom!
  2. Let’s eat, Mom!

Isn’t it irony, that a small comma would make a lot of difference. The first sentence literally states to eat their mom and the second one is an exclamation, reaching out to their mom for having food. There are many more phrases which we often use and think that they’re alike. But, they vary contextually according the type of sentence that is present. Like, “very much” and “too much”. Now let’s dive deeper into their proper usage

How the use of “Too much” different from “Very Much”

It’s an obvious sight to believe that both “very much” and “too much” are similar. But, there are certain conditions in which they have to be used.

Too much is used when the context is about being excessive. (like too, too much or excess). For example, I don’t want to pour too much water here, because it may overflow. Now consider very much. Here very is an adverb, so it must be used with adjectives (describing words) and very much means that it’s a lot, but not necessarily being excess. Like, “Tom loves Jerry very much”. (not necessarily to the greatest extent.)

There are certain sentences which impact the usage negatively, with reference to ‘too much’ like “The apple pudding contains too much of sweeteners”. This implies that one has a problem to eat because of excessive sweeteners. So to showcase one’s dislike or a negative impact, ‘too much’ can be used in this way. Also we consider that, very much describes a quite big amount of actions and may pertain to persons like, “I love cats very much”. One can use very much to highlight that one has something in particular or a specification. Miami style is very much about cars and beaches. Here the statement is emphasizing about Miami’s specialty. And when there are words which are singular in form,  too much is used to be used (according to the context). There was too much snow.
