Blackfoot, also known as Blackfeet, is a North American Indian tribe which are closely related to groups – the Piegan (officially named Peigan in Canada), or Piikuni; Blood, or Kainah (also spelled Kainai, or Akainiwa); and Siksika.
The Blackfoot is known as one of the most powerful and ruthless military forces in the northwestern plains. A quarter of a century after 1806, they barred British, French, and American wool traders, whom they considered to be poachers, from taking over the rich land of the beavers at the upper entrances of Missouri. At the same time, they fought neighboring nations, stole horses, and carried away captives.
These three groups traditionally live in Alberta, Canada, and in the U.S. state, Montana.
