Comparative and Superlative Adverbs: Formation Rules and List

Here we have a list of three rules you should keep in mind while changing forms of adverbs.

  1. Some Irregular adverbs have irregular comparative and superlative forms for example well > better > best.
  2. If Adverb is ending in -ly you must add more to form the comparative, and most to form the superlative. for example: carefully > more carefully > most carefully.
  3. With short adverbs that do not end with -ly comparative and superlative forms are identical to adjectives: add -er to form the comparative and -est to form the superlative. for example: hard > harder > hardest.
