Examples of Categorical Syllogism

Categorical syllogisms: The third and the most commonly used type of syllogisms are the categorical syllogisms.

They follow “If A is part of C, then B is part of C” pattern of logic.

Examples of Categorical Syllogism

  1. All vehicles have an engine to drive. I drive my vehicle. Therefore, my vehicle has an engine to drive.
  2. Major Premise: All vehicles have an engine.
  3. Minor Premise: I drive a vehicle.
  4. Conclusion: My vehicle has an engine to drive.
  • All animals frighten me. That is an animal. Therefore, I am frightened.
  • Major Premise: All animals frighten me.
  • Minor Premise: That is an animal.
  • Conclusion: I am frightened.
