Categorical syllogisms: The third and the most commonly used type of syllogisms are the categorical syllogisms.
They follow “If A is part of C, then B is part of C” pattern of logic.
Examples of Categorical Syllogism
- All vehicles have an engine to drive. I drive my vehicle. Therefore, my vehicle has an engine to drive.
- Major Premise: All vehicles have an engine.
- Minor Premise: I drive a vehicle.
- Conclusion: My vehicle has an engine to drive.
- All animals frighten me. That is an animal. Therefore, I am frightened.
- Major Premise: All animals frighten me.
- Minor Premise: That is an animal.
- Conclusion: I am frightened.
