Hasty Generalization is often called the most common form of infidelity. Basically it makes a claim based on evidence that it is too small. In fact, you can’t make a claim and say something is true if you only have one or two examples as evidence.
Doing strange things is a form of rational deception. When a person makes hasty encounters, he applies the belief to more people than he should, based on his knowledge.
Examples of Hasty Generalization:
- Three out of four teachers appreciated my marks, but one didn’t agree with other three, so I consider only three teachers the best.
- You visited a new country and the first person you met at the airport was not cooperative. You sent a message to your friend at home that everyone in this new country is non cooperative.
- Versa had a big misunderstanding with her boyfriend. She decided that all boys are cruel.
- Happy grandparents do not know how to use a computer. Happy thinks that all old people should not read a computer.
- My Aunt likes to bake and drink hot tea. When I met your Aunt, I am amazed that she does not cook at all and drinks only sodas.
- The driver holding the UK license plate is rash in driving. He decided that all UK drivers are rash drivers.
- On his first day of high school, Mike ran to a cheer leader who called him by name and told him to leave his way. Mike decided that all cheer leaders are snobs.
- Mrs. Froster taught your elder brother, who was a class comedian. He decided to be firm with you from the very first day of class because he thinks you will be a comedian.
- Percy has four boyfriends who don’t like Hillary Clinton. He decides that all men should not like Hillary Clinton.
- I asked for the directions as it was written in French, people ignored my requests, hence I informed my parents that the French people are highly snobbish and not cooperative.
