Detailed Acts of Romeo and Juliet

Romeo and Juliet begin as the Chorus introduces two rival families of Verona: the Capulets and the Montagues. On a hot summer day, the young men of each party fight until the Prince of Verona intervenes and threatens to evict them. Shortly thereafter, the head of the Capulet family organized a party. He intends to introduce his daughter Juliet to a Count named Paris who wants to marry Juliet.

Montague’s son Romeo and his friends (Benvolio and Mercutio) heard about the party and decided to go into hiding. Romeo hopes to see his beloved Rosaline at the party. Instead, while there, he meets Juliet and immediately falls in love with her. Juliet’s cousin Tybalt sees the Montague boys and forces them to leave just as Romeo and Juliet meet.

Romeo lives near the Capulet house to talk to Juliet when she comes out of her window. The two declare their love for each other and intend to get married the next day. With the help of Juliet’s nurse, the couple planned to get married when Juliet confessed to Friar Laurence in custody. There, they married in secret.

After a secret wedding, Juliet’s cousin Tybalt sends a challenge to Romeo. Romeo refuses to fight, which infuriates his friend Mercutio who then fights with Tybalt. Mercutio is killed by mistake as Romeo intervenes to stop the war. In a fit of rage, Romeo follows Tybalt, assassins him, and is chased away by the Prince.

Juliet was devastated when Romeo was late to meet her and heard of the controversy, Tybalt’s death, and Romeo’s dismissal. Friar Laurence arranges for Romeo to spend the night with Juliet before leaving for Mantua. Meanwhile, the Capulet family mourns Tybalt, so King Capulet postpones Juliet’s wedding in Paris until the next day. Juliet’s parents are furious when Juliet doesn’t want to marry Paris, but they do not know about his secret marriage with Romeo.

Friar Laurence helps Juliet by giving her a frame that will make her look dead. When the wedding party arrived to greet Juliet the next day, they believed she was dead. Friar sends a messenger to warn Romeo of Juliet’s plan and asks him to come to the Capulet family memorial stone to rescue his sleeping wife.

Summing Up!

An important message to Romeo does not arrive on time because the disease is in the city. Hearing from his servant that Juliet is dead, Romeo buys poison at the Apothecary in Mantua. He returns to Verona and goes to the tomb where he is surprised and kills the weeping Paris. Romeo picks up his poison and dies, while Juliet wakes up from her coma with drugs.

He finds out what happened to Friar Laurence, but refuses to come out of the grave and stabs himself. Friar returns with the Prince, the Capulets, and Romeo’s widowed father. The death of their children leads families to make peace, and they promise to erect a monument to Romeo and Juliet.
